Center of Excellence in EU Studies is pleased to announce that Dr. Anar Valiyev, Dean and Associate Professor of ADA University School of Public and International Affairs has been appointed Jean Monnet Chair in EU Studies by European Union Jean Monnet Action since September 2020. As part of the Jean Monnet program, a Jean Monnet Chair is a teaching post granted to university lecturers who specialize in European Union studies and research. Dr. Valiyev is the second person in Azerbaijan and the first academician at ADA University to be awarded with this position. Dr. Anar Valiyev will help cultivate researchers and strengthen EU studies during his 3-year tenure.


ADA University has been continuously involved in promoting EU related education and academic research. In 2013, the Center of Excellence in EU Studies was established by a continuous support of ADA University and EU Delegation to Azerbaijan. The Center of Excellence in EU Studies was set up to provide training to civil servants on range of EU topics, strengthen academic and research collaboration with European universities and institutions, and continues to strive towards this aim. There are also running numerous capacity building and academic programs and projects to deepen EU-Azerbaijan ties, such as the Annual ADA EU Summer School, Regional Early Researchers Training School, partnerships with number of European HEIs. During development of the Jean Monnet Chair application consultation support to ADA University has  been provided by BSU Belarus and Elena Korosteleva within COMPASS Project.


Jean Monnet was French diplomat who is known as ‘The father of Europe’ for his contribution towards the founding of European Union’s preceding organization. CEEUS aims to promote EU recognition in Azerbaijan through building lasting collaboration with leading academicians in the field and success of Dr. Valiyev will be a valuable contribution to the promotion of teaching and research of EU Studies in the country.
